What starts as a traditional slasher becomes much more interesting all of a sudden, which is business as usual in a Scott Schirmer-film. The make up which was done by producer and actress Ellie Church (star of many Scott Schirmer films), is amazing.

Enrico, an ultra-rightist young man lying on his identity, finds refuge in the center. The only safe place for him is this refugee camp that he did not want, while the dead are walking outside…

It must be seen to believed: This Russian film is completely self-financed (100 euro, so no need for a second mortgage), and completely self-produced, yet the film seems to have much higher production levels. Full of creativity and ambition, edited like a blockbuster movie - Dmitry Chmelyov is the name to remember!
Short film: Savage Death Valley (DIY animation)

The survivors of mankind are in capsule on a suicide mission while the crew doctor desperately tries to breed with the last humans alive in strange witchcraft sperm rituals. After many years a man and his daughter are the only survivors.
The controversial film of genuine artist Claire Denis (1946) is a true Alienated film and was one one of the inspirations for this year's main theme. What effect does endless space travel have on humans when confronted with the extinction of their kind?

A brief history of cinema: first there was JAWS (Spielberg, 1975), then there was IT (Tommy Lee Wallace) in 1990, followed by TWISTER (Jan de Bont, 1996) and the mockbusters of The Asylum, like SHARKNADO (2013). Somehow, in the turbo-blender mind of Todd Sheets, this all got mixed up, and out came CLOWNADO. Cursed demonic circus clowns set out on a vengeful massacre using tornadoes. A woman dabbles in the occult at Christmas, and her family is not pleased!

After losing his girlfriend because of his obsession with necrophilia, death and a morbid fascination for decomposing human bodies, Sasha falls into despair. He suffers dreadful nightmares where he is wandering a dead otherworldly forest filled with fog and strange creatures. He happens to disturb a demonic shaman, which results in and outlandish beings start moving into our world, and strange voices are heard on his telephone line. A phone repairman comes to help with the faulty lines, but he's a phone-wizard messing about your nightmares.
Sensual and experimental psycho-horror by Russian master Iskanov in the latest (2018) version of his 2006 film, filmed with true nightmare vision.

A low-budget film about zombies soon features the best cast money could not buy, but the problem is that the new actors are not exactly getting along with the crew. Everyone involved is soon receiving a lesson in the merits of perseverance, the preciousness of family bonds and of course the dangers of the living dead, and learns how to act realistic.

THE BLACK FOREST is the fifth film of Rodrigo Aragão (NIGHT OF THE CHUPACABRAS) was (and still is) a BUT-favorite some years ago.
Story: Remote villages in the Brazilian jungle where religion, madness and superstition dictate everyday life and spirits, ghosts and monsters and the devil itself are the ingredients of preference of his films, which can be described as Amazonian fairy-tale horror.

Found at a Catholic hospital, filthy and ferocious, feral teenager Darlin’ is whisked off to a care home run by The Bishop and his obedient nuns. Here she is to be tamed into a 'good girl' as an example of the miracle of the church. However, Darlin’ holds a secret darker than the 'sins' she is threatened with, and she is not traveling alone. The equally fierce and feral Woman, who raised her, is ever present and determined to come for her, no matter who tries to step in her way.

Continuing the twisted vicious adventure of Lucky McKee’s cult hit THE WOMAN, DARLIN’ sees standout star Pollyanna McIntosh both in front of and behind the camera, expertly commanding an all-consuming feast for both senses and sensibility.

A Flemish director recently stated that horror was not ours. Harry Kümel, Jonas Govaerts, James Desert and many others would gladly dare to disagree. On Facebook, Belgica Obscura managed to collect nearly 200 Belgian horror (co)productions, going from big budget pictures, student films, to inevitable homemade splatter and amateur flicks. Vampires, psychopaths, aliens, demons, zombies, even cardboard prehistoric creatures and even more! You name it, we have it. That's why the directors and me are bringing you a small selection of short films to show you the diversity of what Belgica Obscura stands for.
