WHAT : a 42-hour Game Jam for individuals and teams
WHEN : Friday 14 June 18:00 to Sunday 16 June 12:00 (Presentation at 14:00)
WHERE : STEK, Breda, The Netherlands
As a prelude to the 14th BUT FILM FESTIVAL, we’re organizing a Game Jam based on this year’s BUTFF theme “Alienated”. With Grindhouse and B-movies at the back of your mind, let yourself go completely for 42 hours. Search out the ragged edges between what is proper/fitting and what is simply outrageous to create the BUTste game ever! The most ‘BUTste game’ wins the first prize and the winning team will also be honoured at the BUTFF 2019.
Individuals & teams
Both individual developers and teams of up to 4 people can participate in the Game Jam. We’ll help individuals to connect with each other to form teams. The final teams will be formed after the kick-off. The challenge for each team is then to develop a game that reflects this year’s theme: “Alienated”.
Jury & game assessment criteria
A BUTFF jury will assess the presentations at the end of the Game Jam and award marks to each team accordingly. In doing this, they will value originality, extravagant ideas, and creativity (in short “BUT-ness”) much more highly than ‘looking smooth and professional’.
The Game Jam will take place at STEK, Breda, The Netherlands. Breda is about an hour’s train ride from Amsterdam (Schiphol) Airport and about 30 minutes train ride from Eindhoven Airport. Breda itself has an excellent public transport infrastructure.
In Breda, STEK is a breeding ground for creative and artistic entrepreneurs with a “do-it-yourself” mentality who truly value sustainability. Set up in 2014, STEK is host to studios & office units, workplaces, flexible office space, shops and various types of hospitality on a vacant business park close to Breda’s former industrial harbour.
The Game Jam teams will be located at The Canteen, The Warehouse and at offices.
Participation & fee
The participation fee is € 25.00 per person which includes: 2 breakfasts, 1 home-made pizza and as much coffee & tea as you could want.
